PARTS OF SPEECH:

When we talk about "parts of speech", we're talking about words. But unlike most words you've read so far, these are parts of the language that have very specific functions within a sentence. 

Parts of speech are parts of grammar. Nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, and pronouns are the most basic parts of speech.

What is Part of Speech?


Words are used for different purposes, they perform a variety of functions.

They, sometimes, name of a person, place, thing, and on certain occasions, they are used in place of nouns, or they describe things, persons. Words are also used to describe actions, show relationships, and combine words or sentences.

Words may also be used to modify a verb, an adjective, or another adverb and to express some sudden feelings.

Parts of speech are words in a sentence that has special meaning and function. It seems as if all sentences might be made up of verbs, adjectives, nouns, and adverbs. Verbs must describe action; adjectives modify nouns, etc.

Definitions:

The definition of a part of speech is the relationship between the word to a sentence and its meaning.
Parts of speech are categories used to classify the different kinds of words that can appear in sentences. Both sentences and words belong to parts of speech. In traditional grammar, there are eight parts of speech: noun, pronoun, verb, adjective, adverb, preposition, conjunction, and interjection.
Words that are frequently used in speech or writing are called parts of speech.


Kinds of part of speech:


The eight parts of speech (nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs of place, adverbs of manner, conjunctions, and prepositions) are the most used structural features in traditional grammar. Without these eight elements, nothing can be said in English.  Although this classification is very useful for practical purposes it is not completely accurate as there can be some overlap between the categories.

The parts of speech are a term used in the traditional grammar for one in all the nine main categories into that words are classified in keeping with their functions in the sentences, like nouns or verbs. also called word categories, these are the building blocks of grammar.

Word categories can be divided into nine parts of speech:

  • Nouns
  • Pronouns
  • Verbs
  • Adjectives
  • Adverbs
  • Prepositions
  • Conjunctions
  • Articles and Determiners
  • Interjections

What are they:

1) Noun: A noun is a word that names a person, place, or thing.

2) Pronoun: A pronoun is a word that is used instead of a noun.

3) Verb: A pronoun is a word that is used instead of a noun.

4) Adjective: A word that describes a noun or pronoun.

5) Adverb: An adverb is a word that modifies a verb.

6) Preposition: A word indicating the relation of a noun, pronoun, or adjective to another word.

7) Conjunction: A word that connects two things, like 'and,' or 'but' that is used to connect words or phrases.

8) Articles and Determiners: An article is a small word, like 'The' or 'An'.          A determiner is another name for adjectives such as this or that.

9) Interjection: A word or short phrase that expresses strong emotion.
