Basic English Grammar Course

What is Grammar?

The science of grammar teaches us how a language is spoken and written correctly and effectively. So, it can be said that grammar is primarily concerned with the formation and classification of words and sentences and their practical significance in daily life.

Grammar is the study of the rules for using a language correctly.  It is an essential subject for everyone who wishes to be a good writer, whether in that person's first language or a foreign one.  In poetry or drama, grammar provides the means to express emotions, convey meaning gracefully, and create beautiful sentences.

Definition:-

Grammar is a systematic study of scientific methods which provides us information and guidance, necessary to learn a language.

Grammar is the set of structural rules that governs the production of sentences in a language. The term refers also to the study of those rules, especially the investigation of their properties and their functioning in various contexts.

Significance of Grammar:

Grammar is not a collection of random rules, but a set of consistent principles. Correct grammar conveys the right information in the clearest way. Grammar is an author's toolkit for forging language into a powerful and appropriate means of expression.

Grammar is an important thing. Unfortunately, a lot of smart people were forced to spend their childhood learning how to diagram sentences instead of actually thinking about grammar. This hurts everyone involved. It's hard to learn in a screwed-up system because anyone who's been through the system has that system's flaws built into their brains. No one can edit their own writing because they don't know what requires editing.

The fact that grammar is not a science like physics and chemistry is evidenced by the fact that there is no consensus in grammar. There is not even agreement on the meaning of basic terms, such as nouns, verbs, and subjects.

Grammar, like literature, is full of interesting and beautiful moments. I do not mean 'grammar' in the sense of prescriptive rules about the proper use of words (though these can certainly be significant), but rather in the wider sense of an appreciation of how words work together to create meaning.
Grammar is the set of rules that defines correct strings of words.
