What is a Sentence?

A sentence is a unit of a certain structure of words that usually expresses a complete thought and consists of one or more phrases. The main function of a sentence is to express the relationship between subject, object, and action, and in the process, it can show the time, place, manner, etc.

In English, it begins with an upper-case letter and ends with a full-stop, or a matter mark, or Associate in a Nursing punctuation mark.

A sentence is a complete thought. A complete thought contains both a subject and a verb. A sentence can be a long string of words, but as long as it contains both a subject and a verb, it will be considered a complete thought.

Definition:-

A sentence is a group of words that express a complete thought or idea. Sentences can go for several lines and include both simple and complex sentences. There are several ways to create a sentence, everything from long, multi-line prose to little phrases like “I love you” or “This is great”.

Examples:-

They are the best teachers, (statements), Are they the best teachers? (question), What a great teacher!, (exclaiming).

Usually, sentences require at least one subject and one verb. Sometimes, the subject of the sentences may be hidden, but the verb must be present in the sentence. The verb is called the heart of the sentences.

Examples:-

Have it, (In this sentence, the subject "you" is hidden but the verb "have" is present.)
